Now that you've created your product, you'll need to store it somewhere (set it up/install it on a web site) for people to access it. To do this will take a few steps that involve a bit of your expense and skill, but not much, and with the steps I'll outline here, I'm sure you'll have it down in no time!First you must purchase a domain. If you're new to all of this, this may sound a bit daunting to you as it did to me...and then to hear the word "FTP" only made it worse for me. But fear not - it's really not complicated, and you don't need to learn how to create web pages just to do this :-)
So...getting back to the domain. There are a number of good hosting companies out there. But I will tell you that Go Daddy is probably one of the best known and used companies due to all it's tutorials on it's site that walk you through each step, so if you're brand new to the internet, you may want to head straight there.
It won't cost you much to get set up. For a mere $5 or so, you can actually purchase a domain. You may want to add a few other things onto it, so in the end, it may cost you $15 to start it up. Then you'll need to be prepared to pay a monthly fee of $5 or so to host the account. So...go over to Go Daddy or another company of your choosing (there's also 1 and 1, or Go GVO, or Host Gator). Then select your name.
You'll want to choose a name that is closely related to the topic of your product, and will then need to plug in a few names until Go Daddy tells you that name is available for you to use. They have a help desk and phone number there for you to call, and they're very helpful, so do call them if you'd like to about selecting your name (buying a domain). Also, ask them to help you link your domain to the hosting, and for your FTP login information. Don't worry if you don't know what that is, you just need from them the host, the username and the password. You also need to ask them what is the Main Directory that contains the content of your web site...it will be something like "public_html."
Now you'll need to download an FTP agent, and you can download a free copy here at File Zilla. For more information about File Zilla, you can click here to learn about configuring it, and click here for some detailed directions about using File Zilla. In order to log into File Zilla, you will need your login information - your host, username and password that you obtained from Go Daddy in order to download your content to your website.
Once you login to File Zilla, the page will look something like this:
On the left side is the content from your own computer, and on the right side are web site files. There will be a number of folders in the web site file area and you will need to know which one is your Main Directory that you asked the help desk of your hosting company (Go Daddy) the name of. You'll need to know which folder to download your content to.
So...now that you're logged into File Zilla, double click on the folder in the right side of File Zilla that is your Main Directory. Now you're going to upload your content to it. To do this, find your "Desktop" in the top left of File Zilla and click on that. Then find the zip file in the bottom left of File Zilla (the folder where you saved all your content) and click and drag it over into the right side of File Zilla into the Main Directory you have already opened up. It will take a few minutes to complete this step since the file is pretty large.
Now you want to grab your Paypal Button that I told you how to set up in my 12/8/11 entry Setting up a PayPal Button. So log into your Paypal account, click on "Merchant Services" and then on the "Buy Now" button.
Here's the important step for you to now add to this button. Click on "Step 3: Customized advanced features" of creating your button, and under it, put a check in the box next to "Take the Customers to this URL when they finish checkout," and enter into the field next to it, the URL to your product which is just your zip file.
So if your zip file (where you stored the product on your desktop) is called "Archive.zip" and your domain name you chose is "ProfitMax", your URL will be the combination of your domain name, your zip file... so it would look something like this: http://profitmax.com/Archive.zip Type that into the box, then copy it and open it in a new window to make sure it works. If it works, it will begin to download your zip file.
Once you know it works, click on "Create Button" and then on "Website" to grab your code.
Next, you want to create a web page for your sales video. This is a short video that you've made to sell your product. For this, you can use different products, like Go Daddy has some easy uploads for forming a web page, but for this, I'll tell you about Dream Weaver. It's a bit costly, but you can download a 30-day free trial here.
Click on "New" and then under "Page Type" click on "HTML" which will be at the top in the far-left column. Next, select the "Layout." For this, you can just choose the top one that's labeled "1 column elastic, centered." Then click the "Create" button at the bottom.
You'll be taken to a screen that looks like this:
This is looking at the screen through "Split" view (a button at the top). This will show you what the actual web page looks like in the bottom and has the html code at the top. You don't have to know about html, but there's a few steps you will do in working with it in order to install your video and your PayPal button on the page.
Now you're going to change the title. So in the html code, between the words that look like this
Next, go to the bottom screen and
highlight the title there and type over it something like, "Watch this
Entire Video." (You'll see that this will automatically change
your html code above also.) Now highlight that entire title you just
typed in, and click on the little "CSS" button on the bottom
left of the screen, and then on the bottom right of the screen, click on the
button to center the title.
Now, highlight ALL of the text
beneath the title you just typed, and delete it all.
This will be where you will install the video and the PayPal button, so you
don't need anything else here.
Next, you'll work a bit in the
upper screen in the html code. It will look something like this:
Next, make a space for your
PayPal button like you did for the video. So go back to the top portion
in the html code under the 1st line of code under the video and hit enter, so
it will look like this:
Now go to PayPal and get the
code for your button, copy it
and paste it into the space you just made for it in the html code. Then
hit "refresh" and you'll see it in your bottom screen beneath your
video.
Now save your page. Click
on "File" then "Save As" and give it a name (such as "Video"
which means it will be saved as an html, so the name will be "video.html") and save it on your desktop.
Next, go back into File Zilla
and install your video in your web page, by clicking on your
"Desktop" in the top left of File Zilla, and then find the file you
just saved in the bottom left. Click your saved file and drag it into
your web site (your Main Directory folder) on the right side of File Zilla.
Now test it. Open a new
window and type in your domain name, followed by the name of the file you gave
your video page ("video.html")...so it will look something
like this: http://profitmax.com/video.html Your
video sales page should pop up.
Now...if you've hung in for this
whole page...congratulations!! Give yourself a pat on the back! You
know way more than most working on here! You have a skill that can help
you create other web pages!... Would love to hear from you in my
comments section below...
Next, I'll go into creating your
lead capture page.
To your Success,
Thea
