1. Come up with a title for your product, based on 3 shining moments you come up with. For example, maybe you're really great at networking, and you can title it "Become the Leader in Your Company by Learning how to Networking with Top Leaders" ... base it around your topic:
A. What is your best shining moment yet? This can even be a non-monetary moment, like you went to a conference and spent a couple hours with the leaders of it, picking their brains. You could market a nice little $29.95 product around networking with leaders (just be sure not to use the leaders' names in your title).2. Now that you have a title, what will module 1 of your product cover?... Focus on WHY they need this, and show and tell 3 of your shining moments. (Don't worry if you already shared this in marketing your product... It worked! They bought it!... Now go deeper and tell them the details of HOW you got those shining moments.)
B. What is your 2nd best shining moment? Again, look for things you might not even think of...if your Ezine article was listed as a top article, your web site ranked 3 on Google, etc., one of the leaders in your company noticed you....
C. What is your 3rd best shining moment? Come up with one last shining moment within the category that you are thinking of doing your product around.
For example...here's why you need to Blog, here's why you need to be on Facebook, etc. Don't assume they know it; tell them why they need it (explain that all the traffic is on Facebook now, etc.). Then video record your Facebook page or whatever you are showing them to build and take pictures of your leads or whatever great results you're getting from your methods to put in module 1.
3. What is in module 2? A step-by-step (click-by-click) video of how exactly you do everything. For example, if you're showing them how to set up a Fan Page, then show them how to go to the website, what to click on, about choosing their category and name, etc. Each step, you are recording for your video as you are building one.
Next (this sets aside your product from others) have assignments. Outline in detail an assignment they must complete, where they actually build one of their own Fan Pages, or whatever it is you are teaching them. For instance, if teaching them YouTube PPC, tell them they must create 5 unique videos with 5 unique keywords you will give them, and they're to have 5 campaigns running, where they spend $50 on it. Following that, after they've completed the assignment, they can contact you for their 30-minute coaching session where you critique their product.
With the assignment, they will be forced to get good results, to change and create success for themselves. Without the assignment, you could possibly jip them out of a chance to get the good results you have, so be sure to include the assignment.
(Or...if you are selling a lot of your product, like 150 of them. Then instead of 30-minute individual sessions with your customers, you will outline an assignment for them to complete before they all attend a live 60-90 minute presentation with you, asking you questions.)
4. What will you do for a bonus? Offer anything you are familiar with and that you know will benefit your clients. What are their needs? What will help them? It could be something like a resource review over the products that helped get you the success you've had.
So, for example, if you're doing a product on direct response, your bonus could be a list of your top direct response products. You give them a 30 minute video on your top direct response products you've used, their names, along with your affiliate links to them, and tell them how each product helped you, along with a brief review on the top 3 things you learned from each product, titled something like... ie: "Here's the 7 Sources that Changed my Life"
But these are just ideas for you to run with. Your bonus can be anything that's helped you...be creative and share whatever helped you overcome a fear or anything that inspires you!... Show how you overcame procrastination and share 10 steps to overcoming procrastination. Share 7 steps from a video you've seen, etc.
5. What will your 30-minute coaching session cover? Decide this in detail up front and share that in promoting your product. Don't say something like, "I'll provide you 30 minutes of coaching." What does that mean, what do they get?
Tell them you're going to spend 30 minutes listening to them call their leads and critique this, or you're going to review the 5 videos they put together from their assignment and critique those, or you'll spend 30 minutes on the phone with them critiquing their Facebook Fan Page. Be specific - tell them exactly what they'll get coaching on, when they'll get it, how long, and how, so they know what to expect.
And there you have it! You've made it through the steps to creating your own product...
Have you built your own product? What's your experience been with creating products? Please post your comments below - I'd love to hear from you!
To your Success,
Thea
