1. The biggest excuse I hear is "But, I haven't made any money yet."...
But if you have a blog up already or a Twitter account or Facebook Fan Page made, there's someone out there who doesn't and who does not know even where to start. You can easily produce a short video or write a Word document and save it as a PDF e-book.
Even though you feel like your results are not great yet, there's someone out there who knows even less and who will be eager to get a product you produce. You will then have people wanting to follow you and buy into your business and more...it's all about creating value.
2. Another common excuse is, "I have such poor results, people will think I'm a fraud if I try to sell them products about building a blog, when I only have 20 views a week."
But again, there are people out there who don't have any viewers and are dying for a little extra attention, so if you're new to this, why not sell a product and offer 30 minutes of your personal time with it. You can hold a 30-minute phone consult with that person and then when they succeed with their blog or whatever you are willing to help them with, they will sing your praises.
Also, you're not out there selling a product where you're saying you're a guru and are going to teach them how to get to the top. You're simply going to promote a product that will tell them how to set up their blog or Facebook page. No one will think you a fraud unless you want to promote yourself as something you're not.
3. Maybe you feel you don't know enough to build a product. But there's always someone out there who doesn't know what you know. If you even know something like how to sign up for an auto-responder, many people don't know about auto-responders.
Your product doesn't have to be long, and the best products keep repeating basics and the foundation of the product over and over again. It takes hearing something a number of times in different ways for it to sink in, so share what you know, or look up a little more info on Google or in any library or book store on your product and add that to it.
4. Here's another common "fallacy"... Some people think they have great ideas but don't have the know-how to promote it, so they'll wait for a guru to come along and see how great they are and team up with that person and then they'll "make it."
Really??... No. First you develop a product, you use it to help someone else who needs what you have to offer to succeed, and then you have a story to tell a guru at some point to attract a team effort.
Plus, while you're waiting for that to happen, you could have used that time to build your product and made some money.
5. This is a big one!...it hits home for me. Some of us have been reared in religious homes or other atmospheres that build in us an unrecognized "anti-prosperity" mentality against receiving money. We are those saying, "Oh, I just want to give value to people, and then the money will come."
That is wrong in so many ways, it will take several blog entries just around that issue, but here's a few reasons why that's so wrong. First of all, people will put their money where their heart is...if they need the info and want to learn what you have, they'll pay the money for it.
And if you're eager to give value to someone, you could offer a $39 caffeine product, like a brief video you make on how you overcame your You Tube techno-phobia, and then take them through the steps of making their first 5 2-minute videos, and you can personally critique each one... Telling them things like, it's too shadowy, or you need to speak up louder or be closer to the camera, etc.
Someone from that will have their own break-through, and it's going to give them a launching pad to get off to a great start.
Most of us have never received money for our own work, but for our time, so we're not used to it and it rubs us the wrong way, but we need to overcome that. That's what being here is all about.
6. Here's another big one... Are you one of those who feels like a techno-phobia? You've never made a video or put up a Pay-Pal button?
Hey, put up a post on your Facebook or somewhere, saying, "Hey, I want to make my first video and need some tips"... You'll be surprised of the support and help you'll get.
7. Some people don't have a list, and they wonder who they can sell to. Well, that can be a problem, but that can be a symptom of a bigger problem. It could be that you're on here and afraid of building a list. you don't know what to do with a list. Then you need to build value and "feed" that list.
Yes, that's right, but by starting with a product, that fear will vanish quickly and you'll learn that you can also monetize that list. You'll create value and attract people with it and your list will come and then you'll be excited over the possibilities of having a list and being able to create products.
8. Here's a good one. Some people think they don't have time to build a product. But then why are you here? Some people will join your business with you, but many are still left "unfed" by you, when you can be building products and sharing with them what you know.
If you're going to make it online, it will take diversifying yourself, and working your own business and also learning how to monetize what you're learning by creating products for them.
9. "Ah, sure, but there's a ton of great products out there already by gurus... How can I possibly compete?"
Yes, but here's where you shine. Those gurus are only selling products. They're to big and busy to deal with people individually, and then someone buys their products and gets "stuck" with it and quits.
You can offer some one-on-one training with your products. Be sure to limit yourself (ie: 2 30-minute phone sessions, etc.). This is a huge advantage over the gurus products, and your product against theirs with your personal time is much more valuable to someone needing that info.
10. If you're already a leader in your company and making a good income from others, you may be thinking this is not worth it to you. You don't have the time for making products and personal time, but hey...if that's the case, you have it made.
You have a good downline already and want a lot more people on your team, you can delegate and have an aspiring person on your team create the product, and you host the webinar for it, and your team will grow and your team member will get members.
Mark Hoverson did this and had someone on his team who was good with websites build a $10 product for people about how to put up a website. Then Mark hosted the webinar for it and his team grew like crazy, and the person under him got sign-ups and his team was growing in no time... People in his business wondered what he was up to.
11. "I'm not ready for this... I should just focus on my business, that's what my sponsor wants me to do."
But if you're online, you have to have a "unique selling proposition" (USP)... There are millions of people online and millions of people trying to get others into their businesses. You need to stand out.
Here's where building your own products help. If you're online promoting your business along with the others, and you can tell people you will offer them a for free your $197 leadership or marketing packet along with joining you in your business, you have an edge. Then you also have an edge to offer your downline and they can use your product to get the same edge for themselves and you'll build your team much quicker.
I hope this gave you some good food to chew on for thought about creating your own products...
Have you created something of your own already? I'd love to hear from you...tell me about it by clicking on comments here below.
To your success,
Thea
