Video Blogging (Part 2) - getting started

So you've decided to give it a try and don't know where to start?

Maria Andros is an expert on video marketing and suggests you start out by filming with a friend and keep at it.  The more you do it, the more natural and relaxed you'll be, and the more of yourself will come out.

I saw that first hand, when Jonathan Budd made us all go out and video each other this past weekend when some of us were in San Diego for his 7 Figure Marketing Immersion weekend.  You can view one of my videos here:

I was not comfortable at first.  I spend many of my days doing research and writing, so writing a blog is a nice comfortable zone for me to remain in...fill it with facts I can readily dig up from my research, and knowledge from my experiences, and I'm set.  But put me in front of a camera, and I freeze.

But if you read my last post on video blogging, you know what a huge impact videos can have. Everyone's there and we need to go where the people are.

So...if you're a little camera shy like me, I found that running around with a video camera in hand, taking videos of scenes like that above and other every-day shots, was a good way to become accustomed to it and feel more familiar with videoing.

To get started, you'll need a video camera.  I use a Sony Bloggie, and they're available at Walmart or Best Buy starting under $100, or you can purchase them and find more info about them on Sony's site.

It's best also to get a tripod.  This doesn't have to be fancy - you can find them also at Walmart for as little as $15 that fold conveniently to fit in any pouch or purse and will go up to 5 feet.

Next, you will want a YouTube account.  So click here to get started, and simply fill in your details. It's free, but be select in what you choose as your "User Name," as that is what will appear to others when they search for your YouTube account or view videos of you online.

Okay, now that you have a few tools to get going, we'll move on to content, when and where to video and more great tips in my next blogs.

To your success,

        Thea
