Today is July 4th... And here in the U.S. we celebrate our independence, our adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. It's a great day, filled with barbecues, time with family and friends, and fire works! We as a country are thrilled to have our freedom - to be independent.
What is indepdendence? What is independence to you? Do you have independence?
To LeBron James of the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers, his independence came this summer when he became a free agent and able to play for any team he wants.
For Madonna, she gained her independence when she left the University of Michigan's dance team where she was attending through a dance scholarship, to head to New York City in 1977 to pursue her dreams, releasing her debut album Madonna in 1983.
To many teenagers, they feel independence when they begin to attend college or leave home to pursue their own goals and ambitions.
To many of those currently unemployed, they feel they will experience independence when they no longer have to depend on unemployment checks and government assistance.
For me...indepdence began when I found some online opportunities that will enable me to pursue my goals and dreams. Opportunities that my son can be involved in and take with him as well. What about you?... When did or will independence begin for you?
What is your form of independence? What has it cost you to pursue your independence? Is your independence something you highly value and are willing to fight for, to work towards?... Share with me below, and watch for future blogs answering these questions and more...
Hey Thea,
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful Independence Day. I love the American spirit and the celebration of being free and having the hope to achieve anything thing.
My independence is being able to do the things I am passionate about each and everyday, helping others and sharing my knowledge. It keeps that flame inside of me burning.
I look forward to reading more from you.
Yours in Success,
Beth Hewitt
Hello Thea,
ReplyDeleteGreat post and insightful topic.
My independence occurred with an epiphany to commit to myself as well as those I care about
to craft a life I love.
Instead of reacting, I committed to creating
from my heart and soul out of love rather
than fear and to dwell in a place of gratitude.
I also realized the American Dream will always
be there but a dream will still be a dream
without motion.
Stay growing,
Kevin Tyler Smith
