Hello again! Now that you've developed your Twitter profile, you're wondering, "What's next? How do I get a lot of followers? What is all this for anyway?"...
Well, let me assure you that once you get going with Twitter, I think you'll be like me - you'll be hooked. You'll look at your site every day to see who's now following and what direct messages you have to answer, and what new interesting and fun information you can see on others' tweets and profiles.
But first, before all those other Twitterers begin following your Tweets, you will need to set yourself in a nice position for others to want to follow. Now that you have a nice profile, that's a good start, but for others to get to know you or even want to know you, you need to Tweet some good stuff, and this will involve a little time and effort on your part and using some of the Twitter applications that are out there.
First and foremost of importance is the content of your Tweets. What are you pationate about? Why did you join Twitter to begin with? If it's strictly to keep in touch with friends, you have it easy - you need only connect with those on your email list and send personal Tweets to them. However, if you're trying to build a following for any professional purpose, you will want to Tweet information that others can use and will want to read, so you can draw them in and cause them to want to follow you to see what you'll Tweet next.
Focus on your passion or your work and what you'd like to promote through Twitter. Look up U-tube videos that might interest your readers YouTube.com, search on Google for any information pertaining to your subject. Google "success quotes" or quotes by famous people you like to Tweet. But don't limit yourself, don't become boring, Tweeting the same thing over and over again. Look at others sites, find other's tweets that interest you and retweet them - the more you retweet others, the more interest you'll draw and the more retweeting you'll get in return. Also, build a following up before you start promoting your website or promoting your product.
Once you begin looking for items of interest to Tweet about, you'll find that the URL's are often too long to allow you to include a title with them. To fix this, go to the Twitter application on your site under your "Settings" tab and then under your "Connections" tab. Here you will find a number of applications to help make Tweeting easier and quicker. You'll want the "Tweet This" application for shortening URL's. Below is a list of just a few of the many applications for Twitter that are out there that you may find helpful. These are located at the back of your site, under the Connections tab. At the end of the list are a few resources for you with more applications. Soon, you'll be tweeting like crazy and having fun doing it, and even bring in some income in the process. Friend or Follow - allows you to follow those who are following you and you're not following in a large number all at once, also lets you un-follow those not following you all at once (important, as you are limited in your number of followers, and those not following you will not receive any of your tweets).
Twit This - already mentioned above. Use this to shorten your Tweets.
Oneforty - great site, with lots of applications for you.
TweetMeme - gives you the most popular Tweets
TwitterFeed - Lets you feed your blog to Twitter and Facebook and more
